Here’s the best advice I ever got…

“The best skill in the world is being able to do what you need to do even when you don’t feel like it. If you’re waiting to feel like it, you may never feel like it. The more you practice it, you start actually falling in love with it.” -Jay Shetty

10 years ago I was single mom, overweight, unhappy, stuck in survival mode, and doing what I needed to make things

work for my daughter and me. I had to get healthy for my daughter because she was the only thing that mattered to me. I knew that in order for me to change, I had to start loving myself enough to completely change my lifestyle habits. My whole life, I have been that person who started things but never finished. My lack of consistency was my number one reason why I wasn’t able to reach my fitness, nutrition, self growth, and relationship goals. I knew what I needed to do in order to start moving in the right direction. But every time I would start something - a new habit, a new diet, a new workout routine, I would fall off the wagon again and again…and again. Fast forward to today, I lost 30 lbs, I quit smoking and drinking heavily, and I reversed my diabetes. Today, I am the healthiest and the happiest I’ve ever been. So what was the secret to making my transformation? I learned how to take action even when I didn’t feel motivated. I learned how to launch myself out of bed in the morning and just start doing something small. Afterwards, I would celebrate with a high-5 and keep doing it over and over again. I learned how to give myself the validation I was always looking for. The joy and satisfaction I got from just doing my every day habits pushed me forward and gave me the confidence to keep crushing my goals! NO, it’s not sexy or cool…but it worked! And guess what, it’s still working for me! I’m sharing this with you because maybe this is the one thing missing from your life. It could change your life the same way it changed mine. Message me if you’d like to see what’s possible. Love, peace and happiness to you all 💜

09/01/2023

Many of you know that I recently became a Certified Jay Shetty Life Coach and my mission is to guide and support adoptees who are coming out of the fog to empower themselves so they can find inner peace and alignment within their body and mind.

After coaching many adoptees during my practicum, I have noticed a common pattern among them and wanted to highlight this because it’s such an important part of the healing journey. All of them have and are still experiencing stress/pain/chronic illness in their bodies. Whether or not we have connected it to our adoption trauma, it is something that we all want to release in order to start feeling our best.

Healing and letting go of trauma and stress that has become somatically manifested in the body can be a complex process, but it's essential for one's overall well-being, inner peace, and alignment within ourselves.

Here are 9 strategies that may help:

1. **Therapy**: Consider seeking the help of a therapist, particularly one who specializes in adoption trauma or somatic experiencing. Therapy can provide a safe space to explore and process the underlying causes of the stress and trauma.

2. **Coaching**: Coach and client partner with each other so the client can overcome obstacles on the path to their goals. The coach sees the client as whole, complete, and resourceful. By meeting them where they are at, the coach empowers the client to discover their inner wisdom so they can create the changes they need to have in order to maintain long lasting transformation.

3. **Mindfulness and Meditation**: Mindfulness techniques can help you become more aware of bodily sensations and emotions. This increased awareness can be a first step in releasing stored tension.

4. **Exercise**: Regular physical activity can reduce stress hormones in the body and promote the release of endorphins, which are natural mood lifters.

5. **Journaling**: Keeping a journal to express your thoughts and feelings can be a therapeutic way to process and release pent-up emotions.

6. **Self-compassion**: Be kind to yourself throughout this process. Healing from trauma and releasing somatic manifestations can take time, and setbacks can happen.

7. **Social Support**: Talk to friends, family, or support groups. Sharing your experiences and feelings with others can be both validating and healing.

8. **Nutrition and Sleep**: Pay attention to your diet and get enough rest. A well-nourished and well-rested body is better equipped to handle stress.

9. **Somatic Breathwork **: This is designed to release stress and trauma stored in the body through movement and expression. This practice allows you to go into areas where you are holding onto things, areas where you feel triggered and use the breath to clear out the stress and things that are blocking you from feeling inner peace and freedom.

It's important to remember that healing is a personal journey, and what works for one person may not work the same way for another.

But one thing I know is that coming to terms with our feelings, emotions, and realizations about our adoption experience (coming out of the fog) is a mind AND body experience!

Let me know which strategies you already practice and which ones you need some help with.

Why I stopped apologizing to everyone…

Years ago, I was sitting at the bar at Cheesecake Factory with my ex (we had been together for a few years and had recently gotten engaged).

We were both happy to be together, unwinding on a Friday night after a tough week.

The bar was buzzing with lots of good vibes and happy chit chatter.

Just after we finished our first round of drinks and our appetizer, he hit me with the most devastating words I could imagine…

“I’m being considered for a job out of state and I may be moving away.”

It was as if someone had just told me my grandmother, favorite Kindergarten teacher, best friend, and my favorite pet had all just died, and then proceeded to punch me in the stomach.

It was in that second, all of my fears - fear of abandonment, fear of rejection, fear of not being good enough, fear of not being worthy - all of them took over and I just crumbled in to a big puddle of tears, grief, anger, resentment, and hurt.

I had to leave the restaurant, and even after I got home, I cried for hours and hours, unable to get control of my emotions.

It wasn’t until after we ended our relationship and I had years of healing and personal development under my belt that I realized why I had reacted the way I did.

I had been living my life as someone else, wearing a mask of someone who I didn’t recognize.

I had been so worried about being “perfect”and living up to everyone else’s expectations.

I had been apologizing my whole life for not being who I thought others wanted me to be.

I had been under the illusion that other people’s opinions of me mattered more than my own.

I was living in fear that if people found out who I really was, they would leave me.

Well, guess what?

I was finally “found out” and THANK GOD I no longer have to wear that mask!

Today, I am free to be whoever I feel like being.

And, I have to say I like it this way. I am just me - imperfect, honest, and free.

No apologies or f***s given.

So, are you ready to take off your mask?

If you’re considering it, I will say that it’s the BEST feeling in the world!

Let me know if you agree 🥰

We get programmed from an early age to think that something or someone is going to come “save” us or magically change our lives.

You know what’s super awesome?

Someone CAN come along and change your situation and help you achieve your goals.

And that person is YOU!

YOU are the person that has to decide to change.

YOU are the one who has gotten in your own way…until now.

YOU will make it happen, and YOU should be proud of all your positive changes!

I believe in YOU!!!

Does this resonate?

A beautiful day begins with a beautiful mindset 🌈☀️💜

I came across this photo taken a year ago and I was reminded of how much my mindset has changed in just a year.

My first thought when I saw the photo was that I looked happy, peaceful, comfortable in my own skin.

I was surrounded by beauty - the warm sun, the river, the trees, the rocks, and even the dirt.

I felt grounded and in my own element. I felt healthy and strong, vibrant, beautiful.

I wondered why I never posted this photo before.

Then, I remembered why.

I had decided not to post it because I didn’t like the way my stomach looked, I felt it was sticking out and I thought it made me look fat.

Despite it being an amazing photo, that one thing - that I had made up in my head - held me back.

I thought that everyone would take one look and judge me.

I felt like I wasn’t good enough.

I was sad because I didn’t love my whole self, I only loved certain parts of myself.

But just as the trees, rocks, and dirt that surrounded me that day are not perfect - they are all flawed in their own unique way.

I still appreciate them BECAUSE of their imperfections.

What a difference a year has made!

Today, I’m reminded of all the work that I’ve put into myself - personal development, mindset coaching, journaling, meditation, breath work and more.

Today, I’m learning to love who I am today, despite all my “flaws” and imperfections that I couldn’t accept when I was younger.

It’s been quite a journey and I’m working on loving my WHOLE self more.

Because I am worth it.

I hope you have a beautiful day ☀️

Want to love your body more and gain body confidence?

Here are 3 things to start doing right now!👇👇👇

💪Instead of focusing on your scale weight, set at least 1-3 non-scale related goals.

For ex: get a workout in at least 5 days, learn a new sport or hobby which challenges you, or add a new habit like yoga or tai chi which gets your body moving and flowing.

💪Give yourself credit for doing amazing things with your body! Be grateful you have a body and practice self care as a way of respecting your body.

For ex: go to bed earlier, improve nutrition, positive affirmations, doctor check ups, hydrate, wear sunscreen, go to the beach if you love that, and wear that bikini with no regrets 🫶🫶🫶

💪Stop following social media accounts that make you feel crappy about yourself or if you feel the need to compare yourself. Instead, focus more on your own personal development.

For ex: find an awesome podcast to listen to, read a book, get a coach, mentor, or accountability partner to help push you!

What’s your why?

There are two types of people in this world. I used to be the first type:

Some people see their environment as a struggle, or something which is getting in their way of becoming who they truly want to be in life.

They blame their health issues, bad genetics, growing up poor, having children and lacking time to work on themselves, not college educated, and stuck with unsatisfying relationships.

Their mindset is fixed and these factors become the reason why they stay the same and never change.

Other people have a growth mindset and view their world as opportunities to learn how to overcome their challenges.

These environmental factors become the reason why they decide to change, and becomes an important part of their transformation journey.

When I had a fixed mindset, I used to blame my environment - people around me, my job, my lack of money, my tired, out of shape body, and my poor mental health for my unhappiness.

As a single mom, I felt responsible for giving my daughter 110% of me, but never gave one thought to what I needed to stay healthy.

I thought my environment was the reason why I couldn’t change.

Today, I have transformed my mindset and health!

I NO LONGER blame my circumstances or other people for holding me back in life.

I was able to take the action needed towards my goals BECAUSE of my circumstances.

I started taking action BECAUSE of my daughter, and I realized that if I didn’t take care of myself, it was a real possibility that I wouldn’t be there for her in the future.

My daughter is my why.

If you are feeling yourself wanting to grow forward and make positive changes in your life, I encourage you to lean into where you feel the most uncomfortable.

Shine that light into the dark places that you have been too afraid to look at and start getting curious about why it makes you feel triggered, judgmental, ashamed, sad, or angry.

You are meant to live your life to your fullest and highest potential and you’ll start transforming your life when you can see yourself as the brightly shining star that you truly are 🤩🤩🤩

What’s your why?

Sending you all love, peace, and happiness 💜

Xoxo,
Claire

5 reasons why grounding (aka earthing) is amazing for you and how to do it!

1. Grounding benefits your heart health.

2. Grounding helps you sleep better at night as it assists in normalizing stress hormones. It can even reduce hot flashes.

3. It can reduce pain, even DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) because mobile electrons from the Earth make contact with your skin and enter your body, acting as natural antioxidants. They protect cells, tissue, and organs from oxidative stress.

4. Grounding improves your mood. Those who practice grounding regularly tend to be centered, balanced, calm, strong and positive.

5. It helps improve blood flow.

Emerging evidence shows that contact with the Earth—whether being outside barefoot or indoors connected to grounded conductive systems—may be a simple, natural, and yet profoundly effective environmental strategy against chronic stress, ANS dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV, hypercoagulable blood, and many common health disorders, including cardiovascular disease.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3265077/

I like to practice grounding my walking barefoot on grass, soil, or the beach.

I also practice grounding meditation and simple exercises like this:

Working backward from 5, use your senses to list things you notice around you. For example, you might start by listing:

five things you hear
four things you see
three things you can touch from where you’re sitting
two things you can smell
one thing you can taste

Let me know if this is helpful and please share with someone who could benefit from grounding 🥰🤗

Be sure to see these doctors first!

Studies have shown that sedentary jobs and unhealthy lifestyles can lead to obesity, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and even early death.

Please get your health in order so you don’t have to see the other kind of doctor.

06/28/2022

How I transformed my health and saved my life.

The picture on the left was me when I was in my late 30’s.

A single mom, overweight, unhappy, stuck in survival mode, and doing what I needed to make things work for my daughter and me.

I looked ok on the surface but honestly, I was dying on the inside.

I felt anxious, stressed out, sad, lost and scared, while I was trying to survive one failed relationship after another after another.

I was numbing my feelings by over eating, smoking ci******es, and drinking alcohol almost every day.

I was just praying for someone to come and love me enough to save me. But the harsh reality was this:

No one was coming to save me.

Then, after I turned 37, I was diagnosed with diabetes.

This was the wake up call that I needed to light a fire in me and I knew I had to make changes.

I had to get healthy for my daughter because she was the only thing that mattered to me.

I knew that in order for me to change, I had to start loving myself.

Fast forward to today, I lost 30 lbs, I quit smoking and drinking heavily, and I reversed my diabetes.

Today, I am the healthiest and the happiest I’ve ever been.

So what was the secret to making my transformation? It was 100% mindset.

I had to literally imagine my old self was dying in order for me to allow the change to happen.

I didn’t wait until I reached my goal weight, quit drinking and smoking, or find someone to love me to be happy.

The actions and behaviors I took were as if I was already that person I always wanted to be.

I learned to enjoy my journey and be happy along the way.

I visualized my new self every single day.

I am confident. I am healthy. I am loved. I am happy. I am worthy. I am a f*cking badass!

Thank you for reading this and letting me be completely honest and vulnerable.

I am sharing my story with you because someone out there may resonate with it.

If that’s you, then just remember you can do it because YOU ARE WORTH IT!!

If you are struggling with your mindset, please remember my inbox is always open.

Have a beautiful day, and remember to love yourself 💜💜💜

Is meal prepping part of your ritual?

The key to making progress towards your health goals is consistently getting better nutrition.

Eating healthy is hard work and it doesn’t just happen after you decide you want to do it.

How many times do you set a goal of eating healthy but then life happens to us and we put it off, or half-ass it, or do it but it causes so much stress that you only do it once or twice?

The best advice I can give you is that eating healthy doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing approach.”

But it doesn’t just happen by chance.

If you have good food in your fridge, you are way more likely to eat good food!

Start small and as you practice it more, you will get better and more efficient.

What if you made even one or two extra meals next time you cooked?

You would be improving your chances of eating healthier tomorrow!

Who’s ready to start making meal prepping part of your ritual?

Comment “Ready” below 👇👇👇

So I’ve been struggling trying to process yesterday’s news and I can feel all the stress building up in my body.

It’s not healthy to hold onto this stress so I’m going to share a tool that I use to release stress from my body.

This is called heart focused breathing.

Use it as often as you need to and please take care of yourself. Let’s spread love to one another, not hate.

06/24/2022

What does your schedule look like?

Have you scheduled time for yourself? If not, why?

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from my health journey is that we always schedule the things we consider high priority.

For example, a meeting with a client, deadlines for work, bills we have to pay, errands, teacher meetings, school events with kids, etc.

Everything else that we want to do for ourselves often gets pushed when we don’t feel like it, or when life gets hectic.

If we start living our life with intent, we empower ourselves to live more authentically, more on purpose, and more content.

So my advice to you is this- schedule time for yourself.

Schedule JOY right now onto your calendar each day and think of it like you are the CEO.

CEO’s don’t cancel!!

Peace, love, and happiness to you ✌️💜🥰

06/22/2022

Here are 3 ways to shift your mindset if you struggle with body confidence and lack motivation:

1. Watch your words

Is your inner voice encouraging or critical?

Does it notice all of the good things and things you love about yourself?

Or are you focused on the negative and things you don't like?

One of the most important things you can do is learn to shut down your inner critic and redirect it to notice your POSITIVE traits.

2. Curate your social media

You might not realize it when it’s happening, but your social media feed(s) can play a bigger role than you think in your confidence, self-esteem, and mood.

Seeing a constant barrage of posts and images that make you feel like you don’t measure up ... and it can leave a mark on your self-confidence and mental health.

3. Focus on what your body CAN do

When it comes to health and fitness, our culture is consumed with weight and appearance.

The problem with that is when you focus on external validation – things outside yourself – it strips you of your power.

You end up relying on the scale, the mirror, and other people to tell you how you feel about yourself.

What if instead, you took pride in all of the amazing things your body CAN do – and loved it for all of its strength, power, and resilience?

This is a radical shift in thinking – but incredibly empowering.

Do this instead👇👇👇

Think of 5 ways your body supports you every day (this can include breathing, moving, etc.).

THEN … come up with 5 different ways you can help love and support your body, as it works hard and goes through the actions it takes to support YOU!

IDEAS: Getting enough sleep, taking a few extra minutes to stretch every day, meditating, breath work, reading books and listening to podcasts that inspire you, etc.

Let me know if you find this helpful 👍 and be sure to share with someone you love 💜

Can I tell you a story about this wall painting?

Today was a normal day. I woke up, did my morning meditation, breathwork, and worked out. Same as usual.

Then, after breakfast I decided to go for a walk since the sun was out and the weather was gorgeous.

I ended up walking about 4 miles to the next town over, Camps Bay. I love doing this walk because it’s right next to the coast and it seems like every time I turn the corner there is one amazing view after another!

So I made it to town and I was pretty sweaty and thirsty so I went to check out the Mantra Cafe, well honestly just because of the name lol!

I was seated and I chose a table near the front so I could see the ocean. I sat down and I immediately started baking in the hot sun. So I decided to switch to the seat opposite me, facing away from the sun.

I looked at the menu, ordered some lunch, then started to respond to emails and chat messages, not even aware of anyone around me, or my surroundings.

Something made me put my phone down and I looked up, staring straight ahead of me and I saw the huge painting of naked men running on a beach!

I have never seen such an awesome painting and I was just smiling from ear to ear at the sight lol😂

And to think I had been sitting right in front of it for about 15 minutes without even noticing it!

I’m taking this as a reminder to always be present, notice your surroundings, and shift your perspective often!

Because you never know what could be sitting right before your eyes.

Happy Monday everyone 🥰

Just taking a moment to celebrate myself.

Yesterday, I climbed Lions Head Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa.

For over 2 months, I have been thinking about it, wanting to do it but scared, and dreaming of how amazing I would feel once I did it!

But for 2 months, I was a complete chicken s**t and kept putting it off.

I kept thinking of how I teach my clients to get out of their comfort zones and do the hard things.

The growth they experience after getting uncomfortable is incredibly inspiring to see and also rewarding to be a part of.

Yet my own fears, doubts in myself, and limiting beliefs were creeping in and holding me back.

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.

So I decided to go for it!

What’s something you have been wanting to do but fear has held you back?

06/16/2022

We are halfway through 2022, how are you progressing towards your fitness goals?

Or have you given up on your goals? 😳

Are you crushing all of your workouts or do you feel like they could be better?

If you’re feeling anything this picture, you are perfectly normal😀

In order to make progress, it’s better to be consistent most of the time than be perfect all of the time.

Here are three common and important measures of progress:

✅ Body composition: How much lean mass and body fat do you have?

✅ Health: Are your body systems operating well?

✅ Thinking and decision-making: Do you feel clear-headed, engaged, and focused?

✅ Fitness and athletic performance: How do you perform in the gym or in your chosen activities?

It's hard to see "progress" in daily life because you see yourself every day. It's hard to see contrast when you're in it.

Some types of progress are easier to measure:

Can you lift 10 pounds more today than you could last month?

Can you run 5 minutes longer than you could last week?

Have you been virus-free this year—after getting 6 colds last year?

Has your LDL ("bad") cholesterol gone down from your last blood test?

These are "hard facts".

Other types of progress are intangible. Some may be surprising.

For instance, subjective measures like,

"I walk tall now."
"My posture is better."
"I'm so much happier on the inside."
"I've become a better parent."
"I feel healthy."
"I feel confident in my food decisions."
"I'm more organized."
"I'm stronger...inside and out."
"I'm determined."
"I'm more focused."

These things are less measurable... they're noticed and felt just the same.

What are more important to you in terms of your progress?

Diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are the top causes of death today but these can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices.

Poor nutrition, lack of exercise, to***co use, and excessive alcohol are the top behaviors which can lead to chronic disease and early death.

Veggie Omelette Bake

A quick and easy breakfast that's healthy and also delicious? Yes please!!

Eggs are the perfect healthy breakfast food in my opinion because they are high in protein, vitamins, minerals, omega 3's, and are healthy for our brain, eyes, bones, hair, and nails. They also help prevent breast cancer and promote weight loss.

But eating breakfast is hard for many people because, like me, they don't have time to cook in the morning. Too often, we skip breakfast and tend to run out of energy during the day, then are more likely to overeat at lunch time.

This recipe will save your life! It only takes about 40 minutes to prep a big batch and you just cut into nice pretty squares, and then just grab and go in the morning. I have also tried cooking them in muffin tins because it cuts the baking time down a bit and then you have these cute little egg muffins which are already portioned. Either way is fine, just be sure to use a non-stick pan and use cooking spray. Feel free to add your favorite veggies such as mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, etc. Enjoy!

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 5 min
Cook Time: 35 min

Ingredients:

8 eggs

1 cup egg whites

2 cups frozen spinach

1/2 cup roasted red tomatoes

1/4 cup feta cheese

2 Tbsp coconut flour

1/4 tsp Himalayan pink salt

1/2 cup water

Cooking spray

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat a 9x9 baking dish with cooking spray.

Separate frozen spinach into chunks and add to baking pan. Add tomatoes and feta cheese to pan, spreading evenly over spinach.

Beat eggs, egg whites, water, coconut flour and salt together and pour into the baking pan.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until egg is thoroughly cooked through.

Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before dividing into portions.

Can be stored in your fridge or freezer until ready to eat. Enjoy🤗

So I’ve been struggling trying to process yesterday’s news and I can feel all the stress building up in my body.

It’s not healthy to hold onto this stress so I’m going to share a tool that I use to release stress from my body.

This is called heart focused breathing.

Use it as often as you need to and please take care of yourself. Let’s spread love to one another, not hate.

Love,
Claire 💜💜💜
